The fishermen were putting out to sea after a hearty breakfast at the Sunken Dory, a small schooner which had been washed into the lagoon and landlocked. Earl, the inn keeper kept her clean and "ship shape" in the hopes of once again putting her out to sea. Some of the other towns folk were making their way to The Dory. The new moon rose with the Sun and that meant the council was to meet after the third morning bell.

Friar Jasmine, Headman Arture Breakwater and Ranger LaChance were the first to arrive, they helped Earl re-arrange the table and chairs then sat enjoying a coffee while waiting for the other council members to arrive. "Arture, what have we on the agenda today?" asked the Friar... "will be discussing the stories from up the coast?" "Nay, that should be kept for a closed door session, the general population should not be propagating rumors" LaChance piped in: "So sure they are just stories Art? I'm not so certain, too much is on the wind, the birds speak of Minotaurs at sea."

"Rubbish, LaChance, I don't believe any of that. What can the birds be telling you? How would they know one ship from another? Or one sailor from another for that matter?" said Arture. The Friar sat silently shaking her head. She new it was a mistake to discount another's beliefs. Even if she and the ranger did not share the same gods, she new enough to respect LaChance's understanding of nature and her creatures.

Other towns folk were filtering in now. The last two council members had arrived: Juni the fishmonger, Safrem the wharf master took their seats and the discussions began as they would normally... This is when Piper decided he had had enough. He had eavesdropped on enough council meetings to know that all the good stuff had already been said. He headed off to fetch his canoe and his friend Tipper; a nick name, give to him when on his first solo canoe trip he managed not only to tip his Canoe but his father's, his brothers and Piper's. There was only one person who could tell him what on the seas a "Minotaur" could be... "Tipper, let's go to the mainland today! We ain't been to see Mord-ragon in nearly a month..."

"Ah, do we gotta Piper? She smells funny and the hoodoos are spooky." Answered Tipper.

"But, you ain't in no danger of getting your shirt wet on land, Tipper!" teased Piper.

Both boys headed out of the lagoon in their narrow canoes. The waves were gentle and easy for the well practiced boys to navigate. They relished riding the surf, watching the flying fish leap from wave to wave and over the bows of their little boats. Both lads were well into their eleventh year. They both had blond hair, were dark tanned with slight athletic builds. At a glance they could have been twins but on closer inspection Piper has bright blue eyes and a small hook in his nose, compared to Tipper's dark brown eyes and slightly pinched nose. The boys had been inseparable since they both could walk. Todays journey should have been just another childhood adventure...

Phylosophy

I am tired of publishers forcing trilogies down our proverbial throats... Oyster Pond will be a single story which will have start a middle and an end. If other wish to write stories within the setting I will welcome that but I would prefer to keep certain things static: the Sunken Dory should be a constant and prominent picture in the landscape, the archipelago itself, as well as the bad lands to the west (in land) of the archipelago, it's many lairs and dens surrounded by the Hoodoos and other wind swept geological features will make a great settings for short stories and mini adventures... I hope you all enjoy my writing and I encourage you to send suggestions and offerings
